REPORT: Tigers Sign Victor Martinez

Is Martinez about to be the newest Tiger?

According to numerous media reports including from Ignacio Serrano of ESPN Deportes and El Nacional, the Tigers and catcher Victor Martinez have agreed to a 4-year deal worth an estimated $50 million.

At this time, no confirmation had been provided from either side that a deal was in place, but according to multiple media reports citing off-the-record sources, the deal is expected to be completed.

Victor Martinez would be the second big free agent addition this off-season. The Tigers signed right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit earlier this month to a three-year deal.

Martinez, a career .300 hitter, hit .302 in 2010 for Boston with 20 home runs and 79 RBI. He posted an .844 OPS. Recommended Stories
