AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Pawtucket 12, Toledo 2
22-24, 3rd in West Division
While former Mud Hens Charlie Furbush and Andy Dirks were shining in Detroit, it was a day to forget in Toledo as the Hens fell to Pawtucket 12-2. Duane Below took the loss but pitched well, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits in eight innings of work. He also walked one and struck out three. But in the final inning, Jose Ortega and Robbie Weinhardt could not get out of a never-ending jam. The two combined to allow nine earned runs. Omir Santos led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and scoring both of the club's runs. Timo Perez drove him home for the other run.
AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 6, Richmond 3
20-21, 5th in Western Division
With a strong start from Casey Crosby, the SeaWolves picked up a 6-3 win over Richmond on Monday. Crosby got the win, giving up a run on seven hits in six innings of work. He also walked three and struck out five before handing things over to the bullpen. Jared Gayhart did give up a pair of runs in two innings, but the SeaWolves offense spotted him with an extra three runs just before taking the mound to provide a cushion. Rob Waite pitched the ninth to earn his first save. Adam Calderone had two hits and drove in a run for the club at the plate, while Audy Ciriaco ripped a double and scored a run, and Jamie Johnson crossed the plate twice.
A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 5, Bradenton 2
23-22, 4th in North Division
The Flying Tigers used a five run eighth inning to pick up a 5-2 win over Bradenton on Monday. Victor Larez got the start and took a no decision but pitched well, yielding just two runs in seven innings of work. He also walked one and struck out four. Tyler Stohr pitched the final two innings and was on the mound when the offense exploded for their big inning that catapulted the team to victory. Julio Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs for the club, while Daniel Fields added a double and a triple and an RBI.
A West Michigan Whitecaps - Fort Wayne 4, West Michigan 2 (10)
17-25, 8th in Eastern division
The Whitecaps fell to Fort Wayne on Monday, 4-2 in ten innings, blowing an early lead and losing the game in the extra frame. Antonio Cruz got the start and picked up a no decision, allowing just one run in 6 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and exiting the game with a 2-1 lead. Ramon Lebron tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball, but Dan Gentzler allowed the tying run in the ninth to earn the blown save, and then allowed both runs in the tenth to take the loss as well. Nick Castellanos and Hernan Perez each drove in a run for the club.
R VSL Tigers - Reds 10, Tigers 2
0-5, 6th in VSL
The VSL Tigers continue to search for their first win as they move into the second week of the season. Their latest loss was a 10-2 defeat at the hands of the VSL Reds. Yorfrank Lopez got the start and took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings. The bullpen didn't fare any better, as three of the four relievers were credited with at least one earned run, with Carlos Alvarado the only reliever that escaped without being credited with a run. At the plate, Luis Cortez belted a solo home run and Gabriel Tenia added a double and an RBI.
