AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Off Day
22-25, 3rd in West Division
The Mud Hens had the day off on Wednesday but return to action on Thursday to begin a four game set with Durham.
AA Erie Seawolves - Richmond 6, Erie 3
20-23, 6th in Western Division
The SeaWolves fell again to Richmond on Wednesday, losing 6-3. Luke Putkonen got the start and took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Austin Wood tossed two scoreless innings of relief, while Chance Ruffin allowed a run in one inning. The SeaWolves mounted a comeback attempt by putting up three runs the eighth inning and then getting the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Jamie Johnson grounded into a double play to end the game. Rawley Bishop had two hits while scoring a run and driving another one in. Adam Calderone and Shawn Roof also added two hits apiece.
A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 4, Bradenton 3
24-23, 4th in North Division
The Flying Tigers picked up a win to push themselves up above the .500 mark, topping Bradenton 4-3. Luis Angel Sanz got the start and a no deicison, giving up three runs on six hits in six innings of work. Ryan Robowski picked up the win, tossing two shutout innings and being the pitcher on the mound when Lakeland came from behind to score three runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Lakeland took the lead in the eighth when Tony Plagman ripped a double that scored Gustavo Nunez and Brent Wyatt. Kenny Faulk then tossed a scoreless inning of relief to get the save. Plagman finished the day going 3-for-5 and a home run shy of the cycle, driving in three runs. Wyatt also had two hits and scored twice.
A West Michigan Whitecaps - Postponed: Rain
17-26, 8th in Eastern division
The Whitecaps Wednesday afternoon game was rained out with Bowling Green. They'll make it up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon starting at 5PM.
R VSL Tigers - Tigers 5, Pirates 4
1-6, 6th in VSL
The VSL Tigers finally picked up their first win of the season, a 5-4 triumph over the VSL Pirates. Carlos Alvarado got the start and a no decision, giving up four runs in five innings of work. Eduardo Rojas got the win in relief, tossing three shutout innings while scattering three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Yonny Mosquera pitched a perfect ninth for his first save. At the plate, Harold Castro had a big game, going 3-for-5 with a double while scoring three runs and driving in another one. Orvin Tovar and Jesus Ustariz also each added two hits and an RBI.
