In his fourth season with the DSL Tigers, the 20-year old Ortiz was expected to be a leader on and off the field in 2011. Not only did he help guide younger players throughout the summer, but he turned in a solid offensive showing that saw him notch the best OPS (.721) of his professional career. With a .255/.370/.351 line Ortiz was one of the offensive leaders for the DSL club. He poked five doubles, set a career high with five triples, and hit his first home run since the 2009 season. His 21 RBI ranked second on the team to Raynolds Guzman and his 27 walks was tops on the team, one ahead of Samuel Crafort. On top of all that, Ortiz led the club with 13 stolen bases and saw action at both second base and third base.

The 20-year old Hidalgo had high standards to live up to after debuting with a 2.81 ERA in 67 1/3 innings and more than a strikeout per inning in 2010. He managed to live up to that lofty standard and then some in his second tour through the league. Hidalgo finished the summer with a 3-4 record and an outstanding 2.07 ERA in 65 1/3 innings (14 appearances, 8 starts). He allowed only 58 hits, dropping his hits per nine innings rate by over 1.5, and also struck out 71 batters to improve his whiff rate as well. Even after posting a spectacular 4.12 strikeout to walk ratio in 2010, he bested that mark with a 4.73 showing in 2011. Armed with good command for his age and the best curveball on the DSL Tigers team, Hidalgo was able to carve up opposing hitters en route to the award.
