Making a start in Toledo before moving up to Detroit, Drew Smyly struggled Saturday, giving up three earned runs in 1 2/3 innings and picking up the loss. He also had two walks and a wild pitch. At the plate, Brad Eldred went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs, the second of which started a three-run rally in the ninth that fell just short. Out of the bullpen, Brooks Brown gave up one earned run, Austin Wood gave up two and Fu-Te Ni gave up one.

Jordan Lennerton went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run as the SeaWolves exploded on offense. Six players drove in at least one run. Jared Wesson got the start and gave up one earned run on five hits over five innings, picking up the win. Corey Jones went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Ryan Robowski and Robbie Weinhardt each threw two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Brian Flynn threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and picking up the win. Wade Gaynor went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Nick Castellanos went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Victor Larez gave up two earned runs in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen, but Zach Samuels pitched a perfect ninth, picking up the save.

Chad Wright’s only hit of the game drove in the go-ahead run as the Whitecaps won in 11 innings. West Michigan trailed by three heading into the seventh, but RBIs from Steven Moya (1-for-5) and Patrick Leyland (3-for-4) in the seventh cut the deficit to one, and Dean Green (2-for-6) hit a solo home run in the eighth to tie the game. Kyle Ryan got the start and gave up four runs (three earned). Tyler White threw two scoreless innings in the 10th and 11th and picked up the win.
