With the season wrapped up, it's time once again to start handing out the hardware. The Toledo Mud Hens had a revolving door on their clubhouse, with so many roster changes originating due to injuries and needs on the big league club. Who stepped up despite the constant change?

Toledo Mud Hens Player of the Year
OF Ben Guez

Team AB AVG OBP SLG K / BB SB / CS
Toledo 292 .284 .379 .474 76 / 33 4 / 2

With Brad Eldred posting inhuman numbers that included 24 home runs and 65 RBI in 63 games, he seemed like the logical choice for this award, but with him playing less than half the year in Toledo and departing the organization around mid-season, Ben Guez swooped in and stole the honor. Guez hit .284 in 82 games for Toledo after hitting an impressive .308 with a .481 on-base percentage in 26 games at Erie. His time with Toledo was spurred by massive June and July performances that totaled a .315 average, 13 doubles four triples and four home runs. His walk rate was superb in that stretch, picking up 27 walks and just 38 strikeouts in 50 games. For the year, Guez hit .284/.379/.455 with Toledo and knocked 32 extra-base hits while driving in 37 runs.

Toledo Mud Hens Pitcher of the Year
LHP Adam Wilk

Team W-L G / GS IP ERA K / BB AVG
Toledo 7-11 24 / 24 149.2 2.77 128 / 28 .221

Wilk may have struggled with an 8.18 ERA in three starts this year in Detroit, but he was nothing short of dominant during his time in the minor leagues. A crafty lefty with arguably the system’s best command and control, Wilk finished his Triple-A campaign with a 2.77 ERA in 24 starts. In 149 2/3 innings he allowed only 123 hits as he kept hitters off balance by locating and mixing pitches. Wilk walked only 28 hitters this season and struck out 128 along the way, posting his best strikeout rate since his debut season in 2009 with Oneonta and West Michigan. Wilk’s best stretch of the season came in a dominating run through July where he sported a miniscule 1.11 ERA in five starts. He allowed only 21 hits in 32 1/3 innings during that stretch, but was rewarded with only a 1-1 record.
