Jim Leyland and Staff to Return in 2013

Leyland will return for at least one more season

The decision that seemed likely after the Tigers won the pennant was made official on Tuesday, as the organization announced that manager Jim Leyland has received a new one-year deal, and the entire coaching staff will be asked to return. In addition, Toby Harrah has officially been added to the staff as assistant hitting coach.

Jim Leyland has received a one-year contract extension, providing him a contract through the 2013 season. While there might have been some hesitation about Leyland's future, he appeared to be solidify himself with a strong finish to the season, winning the division as well as the American League pennant.

In addition to Leyland, his entire staff will be invited to return and is expected to, barring a potential promotion for someone on the staff (Gene Lamont is a potential candidate to be courted for managerial roles again this off-season).

Finally, Toby Harrah, who joined the team midseason and remained as a second hitting coach in addition to Lloyd McClendon, has been officially added to the staff as the assistant hitting coach.
