AAA Toledo Mud Hens
15-30, 4th in West Division
Toledo rode a big outing by Jordan Lennerton and another strong start by Jose Alvarez in Sunday's game against Syracuse as the Mud Hens topped the Chiefs 4-3. Alvarez earned his fourth win of the season after giving up three earned runs on seven hits in 6 ? innings of work and striking out seven. Bruce Rondon earned his ninth save of the season in the win. Lennerton carried the weight for Toledo's offense, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and three runs driven in. Corey Jones also drove in a run in the win.
AA Erie Seawolves
26-15, 1st in Western Division
A day after overcoming a two-run deficit against Akron, Erie again overcame the Aeros as a five-run sixth inning gave the SeaWolves a 6-4 win on Sunday. Starting pitcher Patrick Cooper earned his second win of the season after giving up three earned runs on five hits in six innings. Justin Souza earned his ninth save of the season in the win. Tyler Collins had only one hit in Sunday's game but it was a big one as Collins went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the win. Wade Gaynor and Luis Castillo each drove in two runs for Erie.
High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
15-27, 6th in North Division
Lakeland let a 4-2 lead slip away in Sunday's matchup against Daytona, allowing three unanswered runs as the Flying Tigers fell 5-4. Starting pitcher Drew VerHagen earned a no decision in the start, allowing four earned runs on four hits over six innings on the mound. Alex Burgos took his second loss of the season in relief after allowing one earned run over three innings. Aaron Westlake had another big night for the Flying Tigers offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs driven in.
Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
19-21, 4th in Eastern Division
West Michigan was the road team in front of its home fans in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against Bowling Green, a makeup game from the Whitecaps' previous series against the Hot Rods on the road. Yorfrank Lopez earned his fourth win of the season in the start, allowing one earned run on four hits over six innings. Jose Valdez earned his seventh save of the season in the victory. Jared Reaves had another strong outing at the plate for West Michigan, going 3-for-4 while driving in two runs in the win.
Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
19-22, 4th in Eastern Division
After a strong showing of offense and starting pitching in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against Bowling Green, West Michigan failed to generate anything from either aspect as the Whitecaps fell to the Hot Rods 8-0. Brennan Smith earned his first loss of the season in the start after giving up two earned runs on four hits in 2 ? innings. Jared Reaves and Devon Travis were the only Whitecaps to tally base hits in the second game.
R VSL Tigers
3-3, 3rd in Venezuelan Summer League
The Tigers rode a four-run third inning on Sunday to top the Phillies 5-1. Starting pitcher Eudis Idrogo earned his first win of the season after shutting out the Phillies on five hits over five innings. Arvicent Perez had another strong game at the plate, going 2-for-4 while driving in a run in the win.
