The Whitecaps mounted a comeback to pull out a come from behind victory on Thursday over Great Lakes, sparked by a two run eighth inning. Devon Travis drove in the tying run on a ground rule double, while Jeff Holm brought home the go-ahead and winning run on a sacrifice fly.

17-38, 4th in West Division

Toledo could not carry Wednesday’s strong offensive showing into Thursday’s game against Charlotte as the Mud Hens were doubled up, falling to the Knights 8-4. Starting pitcher Shawn Hill fell to 0-6 on the season with the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 12 hits over 5 ? innings of work. Danny Dorn homered for the second straight game, hitting his eleventh of the season while driving in two runs in the loss.

Erie and Trenton carried a 4-4 tie into the 11th inning of Thursday’s game before the Thunder scored a walk off run as the SeaWolves fell 5-4. Warwick Saupold earned a no decision in the start, giving up one earned run on nine hits in seven innings of work. Michael Morrison fell to 3-2 after earning the loss in relief. James Robbins was strong at the plate for Erie, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run driven in in the loss.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
20-32, 6th in North Division

Lakeland held a narrow 1-0 lead going into the seventh inning of Thursday’s game against Dunedin before the Blue Jays put up three runs in the top of the inning as the Flying Tigers fell 3-1. Starting pitcher Hudson Randall fell to 0-5 with Lakeland despite a solid outing, giving up three unearned runs on two hits in seven innings. Chad Wright was the lone Lakeland hitter to drive in a run on the night, going 2-for-4 with the RBI in the loss.

26-25, 4th in Eastern Division

West Michigan overcame a late deficit on Thursday by scoring two runs in the eighth inning against Great Lakes as the Whitecaps topped the Loons 4-3. Yorfrank Lopez improved to 6-2 on the season with the win, giving up three unearned runs on two hits over eight innings. Jose Valdez earned his twelfth save of the season. Jeff Holm drove in two runs in the win, going 1-for-2 while also drawing a walk.

The VSL Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Rays and held the lead throughout, topping the Rays 3-1. Oswaldo Castillo earned his second win of the season in the start, giving up one earned run on five hits over five innings of work. Johan Belisario earned his second save of the season in the win. Jose Avalles and Gabriel Tenia each drove in runs for the Tigers on sacrifices.
