AAA Toledo Mud Hens
20-39, 4th in West Division
Toledo held a 2-1 lead late in Monday's game against Louisville but the Mud Hens gave up two runs in the top of the eighth, falling to the Bats 3-2. Starting pitcher Jose Alvarez fell to 5-4 on the season with the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits over 7 ? innings. Kevin Russo was the only Toledo hitter to drive in a run, going 1-for-3 with an RBI on the night.
AA Erie Seawolves
31-24, 1st in Western Division
Erie did not play on Monday.
High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
22-34, 6th in North Division
Lakeland broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth inning of Monday's game against St. Lucie and needed nothing else as the Flying Tigers topped the Mets 2-1. Starting pitcher Jeff Ferrell was strong in earning his second win of the season, shutting out the Mets on four hits over six innings while striking out five. Melvin Mercedes earned his eighth save of the season despite giving up a solo home run in the ninth inning. Harold Castro carried the team offensively, going 1-for-4 with a double and two runs driven in in the win.
Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
27-28, 4th in Eastern Division
Despite racking up eight hits in Monday's game against Fort Wayne, West Michigan failed to put any runs on the board as the Whitecaps were shut out by the TinCaps 2-0. Starting pitcher Charlie Gillies fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss, allowing two earned runs on 9 hits over six innings of work. Lance Durham had a solid game out of the designated hitter spot, going 3-for-3 while falling a home run short of the cycle.
R VSL Tigers
7-11, 4th in Venezuelan Summer League
The VSL Tigers rallied late in Monday's game against the Phillies but could not overcome a big deficit, falling 6-5 in a rain-shortened game. Starting pitcher Jose Fuentes fell to 0-2 after a rough start, allowing six earned runs on five hits over four innings. Ariel Serrano had another strong outing in the loss, going 2-for-4 while driving in a run.
R DSL Tigers
2-0, 1st in Dominican Summer League San Pedro de Macoris
The DSL Tigers ended a scoreless tie by getting one across the plate in the fifth inning of Monday's game and never gave up the lead, topping the Brewers 3-2. Carlos Lara was strong in earning the no decision in his start, shutting out the Brewers on one hit over five innings of work. Rusbell Cabrera earned his first win of the season in relief while Pedro Aybar earned his second save in as many appearances this season. Victor Ovalles had the lone RBI for the Tigers on an 0-for-3 night.
