Kyle Ryan earned his sixth win.

Two of Lakeland's three All Stars were on display in Friday's game against the Yankees, headlined by Kyle Ryan's dominant performance on the mound in leading Lakeland to a 2-0 win over Tampa with fellow All Star Melvin Mercedes earning the save. Toledo's bats continued to impress in its win while the DSL Tigers won another close one. Erie, West Michigan and the VSL Tigers lost on Friday.

Toledo's bats stayed hot in Friday's game against Columbus and were joined by excellent pitching as the Mud Hens shut out the Clippers 6-0. Starting pitcher Pat Misch improved to 2-3 on the season with the win, shutting out Columbus on four hits over six innings of work while striking out five. Bryan Holiday led the charge offensively for the Hens, going 1-for-4 with a double and two runs driven in in the win.

Erie struggled to generate anything offensively in Friday's series opener against New Hampshire as the SeaWolves could only muster three hits against the Fisher Cats, falling 2-0. Matt Crouse earned a no decision in the start, shutting out New Hampshire on two hits over five innings of work. Will Clinard fell to 0-1 after earning the loss in relief. Hernan Perez had the best night offensively for the SeaWolves, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in the loss.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
25-34, 6th in North Division

Lakeland didn't need much in the way of offense in Friday's series opener against Tampa, putting up just two runs and riding a great pitching performance to top the Yankees 2-0. Starting pitcher Kyle Ryan improved his record to 6-5 with the win in his first start since getting an All Star Game nod, shutting out the Yankees on three hits over eight innings of work. Fellow All Star Melvin Mercedes earned his tenth save of the season in relief. Francisco Martinez had a strong night at the plate in the win, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in the win.

Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
28-30, 4th in Eastern Division

Pitching struggled for West Michigan in Friday's game against Great Lakes as the Whitecaps gave up double digit runs, falling to the Loons 10-4. Starting pitcher Jake Thompson struggled in falling to 0-1 on the season, giving up four earned runs on six hits in two innings of work. Lance Durham led the offense for the ‘Caps, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the loss.

The VSL Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in Friday's game against the Mariners but could not hang on to it, falling in an 8-4 final. Eduardo Jimenez earned a no decision in the start, allowing one earned run on four hits over four innings. Esmeiro Del Valle fell to 1-1 on the season after earning the loss in relief. Victor Cortez only had a single but it was enough to make a mark offensively, going 1-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

The DSL Tigers were in another close battle in Friday's game against the Braves and like so many of the team's games early this season they were on the winning end as the Tigers topped the Braves 5-4. Starting pitcher Sandy Baez improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits over five innings of work. Pedro Aybar earned his fourth save of the season in the win. Victor Ovalles had another strong game for the Tigers in the win, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and walk.
