Avisail Garcia led Toledo to a victory on Sunday with his biggest performance at the plate this season, hitting for the cycle and marking the first time a Toledo player has done so since Ryan Raburn did it in 2007. Erie and Lakeland both came away with wins while West Michigan was doubled up on the road. Connecticut and the VSL Tigers each earned losses.

Toledo used a five-run eighth inning to blow Sunday’s game against Indianapolis wide open but gave up three runs in the top of the ninth, narrowly escaping with a 9-7 win over the Indians. Starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein earned a no decision after allowing four earned runs on seven hits over five innings. Jose Ortega improved his record to 3-0 with the win while Jose Valverde earned his second save in as many days. Avisail Garcia gave the Mud Hens a big boost at the plate in his return to the lineup, going 4-for-5 while hitting for the cycle and driving in three runs. Garcia is the first Toledo player to hit for the cycle since Ryan Raburn accomplished the feat in 2007. Kevin Russo and Nick Castellanos each drove in two runs for Toledo in the win.

AA Erie Seawolves
45-42, 2nd in Western Division

Erie and Altoona were matchup up in a low scoring game on Sunday but the SeaWolves were able to prevail behind a strong outing from their starting pitcher, topping the Curve 3-1. Jon Link improved his record to 2-1 with the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits over 6 ? innings in his start. Melvin Mercedes earned his third save of the season in the win. Tyler Collins had another strong night for Erie at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs driven in.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
35-46, 5th in North Division

Lakeland fell behind by two runs before scoring five unanswered in the final two innings of Sunday’s game against Clearwater as the Flying Tigers topped the Threshers 5-2. Starting pitcher Wilsen Palacios improved his record to 4-6 with the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits over seven innings. Jose Valdez earned his third save of the season in the win. Devon Travis had a big night for Lakeland, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Flying Tigers.

Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
41-47, 5th in Eastern Division

West Michigan’s pitchers were roughed up in Sunday’s game against Lake County as the Whitecaps were doubled up by the Captains 8-4. Starting pitcher Jake Thompson fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss after allowing two earned runs on five hits over 4 ? innings. Jason King kept the ‘Caps in the game at the plate, going 2-for-4 while driving in two runs in the loss.

6-14, 4th in Stedler Division

Connecticut held a narrow 2-1 lead in Sunday’s game against Staten Island before giving up five runs in the eighth innings as the Tigers fell to the Yankees 6-2. Starting pitcher Buck Farmer earned a no decision after allowing one earned run on five hits over three innings. Scott Sitz earned a blown save and his first loss of the season after giving up five runs in relief. Dominic Ficociello was responsible for most of Connecticut’s offense, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two runs driven in in the loss.

The VSL Tigers struggled in every aspect of Sunday’s game against the Mariners, getting lit up in a lopsided 11-1 loss. Starting pitcher Oswaldo Castillo fell to 4-3 with the loss after allowing two earned runs on three hits over three innings. Andres Sthormes was the only hitter to drive in a run, knocking in an RBI on a sacrifice.
