Toledo looked to be evenly matched early in Thursday's game against Columbus but gave up seven unanswered runs late in a loss to the Clippers. Erie was shutout in a loss against Harrisburg while Lakeland lost a close game. West Michigan earned a huge win over Clinton behind a big night from Jason King while Connecticut earned a much-needed win.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens
39-57, 4th in West Division

Toledo was locked in a 3-3 tie before allowing five runs in the fifth inning of Thursday’s game against Columbus as the Mud Hens fell to the Clippers 10-3. Starting pitcher Robbie Weinhardt earned a no decision after allowing two earned runs on three hits over four innings. Matt Hoffman fell to 4-3 after earning the loss in relief. Danny Dorn hit his seventeenth home run and drove in two runs in the loss while Avisail Garcia tallied a solo homer, his third of the year.

AA Erie Seawolves
46-43, 2nd in Western Division

Erie couldn’t get anything going at the plate in Thursday’s series opener against Harrisburg as the Seawolves notched only three hits in a 7-0 shutout to the Senators. Patrick Cooper fell to 2-7 after earning the loss in his start, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over 3 ? innings. The top of the order generated the only hits for Erie, with the first three hitters in the lineup each tallying a single.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
37-49, 6th in North Division

Lakeland held Daytona nearly in check offensively but the Flying Tigers couldn’t generate much offense of their own, falling to the Cubs 2-1. Starting pitcher Thomas Collier took the no decision after allowing one earned run on three hits over five innings. Alex Burgos fell to 2-4 after earning the loss in relief. Steven Moya drove in the only run for Lakeland on a 1-for-3 night at the plate.

Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
42-48, 6th in Eastern Division

West Michigan matched impressive pitching with a titlewave of hitting in Thursday’s matchup against Clinton as the Whitecaps topped the LumberKings 13-1. Montreal Robinson earned a no decision in the start, allowing one earned run on three hits over four innings. Jeff Thompson earned his first win of the season in relief. Jason King proved to be a King-killer at the plate for the ‘Caps, driving in four runs and hitting a triple as part of a 9-run seventh inning.. Lance Durham hit his seventh home run and drove in two runs on the night.

Connecticut staved off a late comeback attempt in Thursday’s game against Williamsport as the Tigers gave up two runs in the ninth inning but topped the Crosscutters 6-4. Kevin Ziomek earned a no decision in a short start, shutting out Williamsport on one hit over two innings. Hunter Scantling improved his record to 1-1 after earning the win in relief. Ben Verlander had a big night at the plate out of the designated hitter spot, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs driven in.

The DSL Tigers fell behind in the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Blue Jays and could not recover, getting doubled up by the Blue Jays 6-3. Starting pitcher Gregory Soto took a no decision in a short outing, allowing two earned runs on two hits in one inning of work. Harold Rosario fell to 1-3 on the year after taking the loss. Sandy Acevedo brought power to the lineup for the Tigers, going 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the loss.

The GCL Tigers nearly blew a six-run lead in Thursday’s game against the Astros but held on, topping the Astros 7-5. Emanuel Chavez earned his first win of the season in the start, allowing four runs on five hits over 5 ? innings. Ricardo Ciriaco earned his seventh save of the season in the win. Steven Fuentes had a big night at the plate for the Tigers, driving in two runs and scoring two runs on a 3-for-4 night.
