|2013 Ian Krol Stats - Pitching|
Body: Physical; strong frame; sturdy lower half; solid athlete; has the build of a hard-throwing lefty; like the physical attributes.
Delivery/Mechanics:Simplified delivery since signing out of high school; multiple ticks throughout windup, including glove tap and toe tap; timing to balance point is good; a little drop and drive as he starts movement toward plate; generates good momentum; quick arm; finishes with some violence by stopping himself short; doesn’t get through the ball consistently; not a max effort guy but has complexity/effort/violence in his delivery.
Fastball: FB plays up in BP; sits consistently 91-93; T94 and could have a half-tick more at times; FB has natural life when down in the zone; tails to the arm side; can be difficult to barrel; FB is clear second pitch; still learning how to attack with FB early in counts; good quality MLB offering that could still play up if used with more aggression. Grade – Present 5+/Future 6
Curveball: Hammer; true 1-7 out pitch; thrown with velocity in 79-81 range; tight spin; hard pitch with very good depth and sharpness; bat misser; go-to pitch; will pitch off CB at times instead of attacking with FB and using breaker as put away pitch; legit plus; will play half grade higher when sequenced better. Grade – 6/6+
Control/Command: Effort in delivery leads to command problems; finds the zone consistently; doesn’t locate FB side-to-side or elevate when he wants to; throws pitches at the zone and relies on movement; limited command projection.
Other: Aggressive mentality; has makeup issues in past but has seemingly moved past them; doesn’t get rattled on the hill; lacks consistent ability to hold runners; RHH can eat him alive.
Summary: Two legit MLB plus pitches at peak; FB and CB can both miss bats; command lags behind considerably; loves to pitch off CB; needs to learn sequence a little better and be more aggressive with FB; fits bullpen lefty mold perfectly with aggression, delivery and two-pitch arsenal.
Risk: Low risk; already reached MLB and has taken well to projected role.
Projection: Situational lefty; possible lefty setup ceiling; FB-CB wreaks havoc on LHH but can be beaten by RHH and needs to be protected.
