TigsTown Players of the Month: May 2014

Moya ripped 21 extra base hits in May

A day after looking closer at which pitchers shined in the month of May, we take a look at which hitters performed well. The Tigers had a pair of power hitters do plenty of mashing down on the farm in May, putting them among the league leaders in their respective leagues and categories.

AAA Toledo - 3B Mike Hessman
92 AB | .272 AVG | .979 OPS | 3 2B | 0 3B | 10 HR | 1 SB
Hessman had a big-time power surge for the Hens in May, belting ten home runs which vaulted him up among the leaders in the International League (currently 2nd in the IL with 14 total). Suarez continued his hot-hitting after his promotion from Erie, with a .300/.400/.500 slash line, but only appeared in 12 games.
Runner-Up: SS Eugenio Suarez

AA Erie - OF Steven Moya
122 AB | .311 AVG | .954 OPS | 11 2B | 2 3B | 8 HR | 6 SB
Few players in all of minor league baseball had a more impressive month than Moya, hittin over. 300 with 21 extra base hits, to go along with six stolen bases. His walk rates still aren't great, but his approach is improving, and it's this sort of power surge that makes him such a tantalizing prospect.
Runner-Up: 2B Corey Jones

A+ Lakeland - OF Chad Wright
113 AB | .354 AVG | .907 OPS | 11 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 1 SB
Lakeland has been without a start hitter this year, but Chad Wright stepped up in May with a very good month overall, hitting for a very good average with plenty of gap power. Connor Harrell also had a solid month for the Flying Tigers with a .284 average.
Runner-Up: OF Connor Harrell

A West Michigan - SS Willy Adames
109 AB | .294 AVG | .842 OPS | 4 2B | 6 3B | 1 HR | 1 SB
Adames is just 18 years old, but is more than holding his own in an advanced situation, hitting for average and gap power while utilizing his speed to leg out six triples in the month of May. Bernard meanwhile continues to be a solid force for the 'Caps.
Runner-Up: OF Wynton Bernard
