Pudge Receives Pair of Awards

Pudge garners a pair of honors

In the offseason, the Tigers added Ivan Rodriguez because of his impressive credentials both on and off the field. His impact in the clubhouse and in the media in his immeasurable, but on Tuesday he received a pair of honors that recognized his accomplishments on the field.

Ivan Rodriguez was first honored with the American League Gold Glove award for Catchers, acknowledging outstanding play in the field. It's now the 11th time he has won the AL Gold Glove, which puts him past Johnny Bench among Catchers all time.

It was the first time Rodriguez won the award in the American League since 2001, after an injury-shortened 2002, and a 2003 spent in the National League.

While his defense wasn't quite where it once was (19-for-59 throwing out stolen base attempts), he still was respectable compared to all other AL Catchers, and also received credit for helping bring along an extremely young pitching staff in Detroit.

Besides the Gold Glove, Rodriguez also tied for the Silver Slugger award, which is awarded to the top hitter at each position. Rodriguez tied with Cleveland Catcher Victor Martinez for the Catcher's Silver Slugger award.

For the season, Rodriguez hit .334 with 19 Home Runs and 86 RBI. He finished with an OPS (on base percentage plus slugging percentage) of .893.
