Like last offseason, the Tigers are expressing interest in a number of free agents, only this time, the free agents are giving Detroit a look. The first two that have publicly expressed mutual interest have been 2B Jeff Kent, and closer Troy Percival.

The Tigers received their first visit of the offseason on Monday, when Second Baseman Jeff Kent (accompanied by his agent) visited Comerica Park and met with President/CEO Dave Dombrowski.

It does not appear that the Tigers made an offer, and Kent's agent Jeff Klein it was more of a "trip of discovery", since Kent had never been to Comerica Park before.

The Tigers already have their Second baseman in Omar Infante, but it's possible that he could shift to Third base or the Outfield. Plus, Klein has stated his client would be open to moving.

However, Kent does not appear to be in a hurry to sign, and will take his time before making a decision. Nonetheless, a promising sign that Kent made an effort to come out and see Detroit, when a similar free agent last season (Rich Aurilia) refused to give the Tigers an opportunity to make their pitch.

On the other end of the spectrum, Troy Percival has already named the Tigers as one of his 6 finalists, and will be visiting sometime in the next week or so. He already has scheduled visits this week with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs.

Unlike Kent, Percival is hoping to complete a deal within the next couple of weeks. According to his agent, Percival is looking for a one-year or two-year deal.

Percival presents an interesting scenario, because the Tigers just recently exercised their option on closer Ugueth Urbina for next season. However, if Percival indeed does decide to sign, the Tigers could either shift Urbina into the setup role, or possibly look to trade him, as teams expressed interest in him at the trade deadline this past season.

But Kent and Percival aren't the only two the Tigers are pursuing. The Tigers also appear to have made inquiries with Third basemen Corey Koskie and Troy Glaus, as well as Starting Pitchers Carl Pavano, Matt Clement and Derek Lowe.

Stay tuned, as the Tigers will continue to be active in the free agent market in an attempt to improve the club once again through free agency.
