Meet Cameron Maybin: The Newest Tiger

The Tigers had a handful of names that they were targeting in the draft, but one player in particular they didn't expect to find still available at the 10th selection. So we'll call it a pleasant surprise when the Tigers had the pleasure of announcing Cameron Maybin as their newest member.

The Tigers were looking for an impact player in a draft that was as deep and impressive as this one is, especially as far as position players are concerned.

So, when the Tigers top pitching target, Mike Pelfrey, went off the board to the Mets at number nine, it set up the Tigers to snag a player they weren't expecting to still be on the board.

Luckily for them, he was. With the 10th selection in the 2005 draft, the Tigers grabbed Cameron Maybin, a high school outfielder out of T.C. Roberson High School in North Carolina.

Maybin, who has been applauded for his incredible maturity and dedication, was ranked the third best prospect in the draft by Baseball America, and the #2 overall high school player.
