With Tigers ace Jeremy Bonderman headed to the disabled list, the team will recall top pitching prospect, and 2006 first round pick Andrew Miller from AA-Erie to take his place.

Bonderman missed last Sunday's nationally televised start because of the same blister issues on his pitching hand, and until today signs were positive that he might be able to start this Friday. He will be placed on the 15-day DL to give him time to fully recover and come back strong.

In his place, the Tigers will insert their second rookie starter of the week; following the Major League debut of AAA righty Virgil Vasquez this past Sunday. Andrew Miller -- TigsTown's #2 prospect -- will make his first big league start on Friday, at home against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to the anticipated excitement of the Tigers facing their 2006 World Series opponent for the first time since being routed in the Fall Classic, fans will be on the edge of their seats as the talented young lefty takes the hill. Miller was 1-4 with a 3.48 ERA at High-A Lakeland to start the season, but his recent promotion to AA-Erie brought increased success. In his lone start for the Seawolves, he went eight strong innings allowing only six hits and one unearned run, while striking out seven.

The lanky 6-6 lefty will remain in the Detroit rotation until Bonderman is ready to make his return from the DL, at which point he will head back to the minors for additional seasoning. There is little doubt Miller has the electric arsenal necessary to succeed at the Major League level, the only question is whether he is truly ready for the challenge. He will have big shoes to fill, as Bonderman leaves the rotation with a 2-0 record, 4.20 ERA, and eight strikeouts per nine innings.
