June 28th Games AAA Toledo Mud Hens – LOUISVILLE 10, TOLEDO 8 AA Erie SeaWolves – ERIE 5, HARRISBURG 3 A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – LAKELAND 2, DAYTONA 1 A West Michigan Whitecaps – LANSING 3, WEST MICHIGAN 2 A- Oneonta Tigers – ONEONTA 4, TRI-CITY 2 R GCL Tigers – PHILLIES 16, TIGERS 0 R DSL Tigers - TIGERS 10, PADRES 1 R VSL Tigers – PPD: RAIN Despite another strong showing from the offense, the Mude Hens couldn't keep Louisville in check, with Francisco Cruceta surrendering four runs in the 11th. The 'Hens made a comeback attempt, scoring two runs, but with Mike Hessman as the tying run at the plate, he was called out on strikes to end the threat. Hessman did have a three run home run. Timo Perez also added three hits, while Max St. Pierre had three hits, including a home run and four RBI. The most encouraging news of the night though was Aquilino Lopez's start - he allowed one run on two hits over six innings of work, including seven strikeouts. On the back of Wilkin Ramirez's two home runs, the SeaWolves pulled out a second straight victory over Harrisburg. Ramirez had three hits, including two solo home rusn to help pace the offense. Josh Rainwater pitched well as the starter, but didn't get the win. Rainwater allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings, though he did walk five, he also struck out five. Juan Cedeno got the win in relief, while Casey Fien pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save. Like Toledo, the Flying Tigers went to extra innings, but Lakeland got a win much like the Tigers did earlier this week, via a walk-off walk for Ryan Strieby that scored Carmelo Jaime. Ramon Garcia got the win in relief, but Guillermo Moscoso was the headline on the mound, giving up a run over five innings, including ten strikeouts. Brennan Boesch also had an RBI, while Michael Bertram had a pair of RBI. The Whitecaps lost a close battle with Lansing on Saturday night, with the offense only managing two runs. Thad Weber got the start, giving up a run in three innings. The 'Caps got both their runs in the first inning via a two run single by Alex Avila. Luke Putkonen picked up his second win with a strong outing, giving up two runs in 5 2/3 innings before handing the game over to the 'pen. Tyler Stohr also pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. Wade Lamont drove in a pair of runs, while Luis Arlet was the only O-Tiger with a multi-hit game. The GCL Tigers didn't have their best outing, falling to the Phillies 16-0. All four GCL Tigers' pitchers allowed at least two runs, though three of the four were the victim of unearned runs as the defense committed five errors. Richard Zumaya took the loss as the starter, allowing seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings of work. Three GCL Tigers had doubles (Billy Nowlin, Brandon Harrigan and Luis Palacios), but they couldn't turn any of those into runs. The DSL Tigers are making a push to get out of the Santo Domingo West, and have moved into a third place tie with a 10-1 win over the DSL Padres. Ramon Lebron picked up his first win of the year, tossing five shutout innings, with nine strikeouts. He recieved plenty of support at the plate, with Samir Rijo, Juaner Aguasvivas, and Victor Dionisio each had two hits apiece, combining to score five runs. Lambert struck out eight in his six innings, picking up his seventh win of the year. Joyce and Hessman meanwhile both went yard for solo shots, and also each had an additional RBI. Brent Clevlen added a pair of hits while Max St. Pierre drove in two. The SeaWolves got a pair of runs in the third inning, and while it wasn't much, it was enough for the 'Wolves to hang on for a 2-1 victory. Luke French turned in one of his best outings of the year, giving up just one run over eight innings of work. Will Rhymes and Wilkin Ramirez were responsible for bringing home the team's two runs, scoring Jeff Kunkel and Casper Wells. In their first match-up since the tennis ball incident, the Flying Tiger split their doubleheader with Daytona on Friday. Rick Porcello got the win in the first game, yielding one unearned run over six innings of work, including a pair of strikeouts. Jay Sborz gave up a run in the final inning, but still picked up the save. James Skelton and Pedro Cotto brought in all four runs, each with a two run homer. In the nightcap though, the Flying Tigers were shut out, despite a quality start from Matt O'Brien. The offense managed just three hits and never got any real scoring threats going. The Whitecaps had to wait out a rain delay in the middle of the game, but still walked away with a 3-2 win. The 'Caps scored all three of their runs in the first, then had to hang on for the win. Jon Kibler pitched six shutout innings, while after working into a jam, Noah Krol relieved Rudy Darrow to record the final out and get the save. Audy Ciriaco blasted a two run homer, while Roger Tomas brought home the other run. The O-Tigers dropped a close game to Tri-City, with Anthony Shawler taking the loss in relief. Trevor Feeney struggled as the starter, making it through just 2 1/3 innings before exiting after allowing five runs. Ben Guez had two RBI, while Christopher White had three hits. In a mirror image of the result from Thursday, the GCL Tigers fell to the GCL Indians 4-2 once again. Brayan Villareal was the one hit hard this time around, allowing four runs in just two innings of work before exiting. Jade Todd and Robert Waite did combine for six shutout innings of relief, but the damage had already been done. Londell Taylor brought in both runs via a two-run single in the third. The DSL Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth, then held off a ninth inning rally to squeak out a one run victory. Alvin Acosta got the start, allowing two unearned runs in four innings of work, but Gabriel Herrara earned the win for being on Elvin Soto's two run double. Julio Rodriguez also had a pair of RBI. The rough season for the Tigers' VSL affiliate continues, with the latest blemish coming as a 3-1 loss to the VSL Cardinals. Eduardo Gonzalez gave up two runs in six innings but took the loss, getting minimal support at the plate. Ivan Espinoza drove in the lone run, while Avisail Garcia had a pair of hits. Bazardo got the win, just his second of the year, giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings. Jeff Larish, who started the game at third base, had two hits and three RBI. Timo Perez also added three hits, including a solo home run. Denny Christensen emerged with an outstanding outing, giving up just one run over eight innings of work as he cruised to his fifth victory. Casey Fien pitched a perfect ninth but wasn't eligible to pick up a save. Ryan Roberson had two hits and two runs scored, including a solo blast, while Dusty Ryan had a pair of RBI. The Whitecaps squeaked out a one run victory, as Alfredo Figaro picked up his ninth victory of the year. Figaro gave up three runs in six innings, including five strikeouts. Justin Henry and Jordan Newton each had two RBI, while Ronnie Bourquin ripped a pair of doubles. The Oneonta pitching staff was hit hard, giving up 19 hits, which would turn into nine Tri-City runs. Mark Sorensen was hit hard as the starter, giving up five runs in three innings, but the offense kept him from taking the loss. That went to Lester Oliveros, who gave up three runs in just an inning of work in the eighth. Eric Harryman had two hits, two runs, including a three run blast, while Brent Wyatt added three hits and a run scored. The GCL Tigers took an early lead, but couldn't recapture the lead after losing it in third, always playing one step behind the GCL Indians. Darlin Duran took the loss, giving up two runs on just two hits in five innings. Duran also struck out seven. Robbie Weinhardt pitched two innings of scoreless relief as well. Carmelo Jaime led the offense from the leadoff slot, with two hits, a run and an RBI. The DSL Nationals(1) club continue to have the DSL Tigers' number, as they came back in the late innings to take the lead and the game. Marcos Nunez started with five shutout innings, but Melvin Mercedez would allow four Nationals runs in relief to take the loss. Juaner Aguasvivas had two hits and scored the lone run. Posted by: Wez, 6/27 June 25th Games AAA Toledo Mud Hens – SYRACUSE 8, TOLEDO 2 AA Erie SeaWolves – TRENTON 7, ERIE 0 A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – CCLD: RAIN A West Michigan Whitecaps – FORT WAYNE 8, WEST MICHIGAN 0 A- Oneonta Tigers – LOWELL 7, ONEONTA 1 R GCL Tigers – TIGERS 14, BLUE JAYS 3 R DSL Tigers - PADRES 14, TIGERS 2 R VSL Tigers – PIRATES 10, TIGERS 2 Lauren Gagnier gave up five runs in five innings, as the Mud Hens fell to Syracuse. Gagnier struggled with his control, walking five while allowing five hits as well. Erick Almonte had three hits in the losing effort, while Jeff Larish had a hit and an RBI in his return to the team. Ben Fritz got hit hard, and didn't get much help from his defense as the 'Wolves were shut out. Fritz allowed all seven Trenton runs, though just four earned, in six innings of work. The offense managed just four singles for the game, two coming from Jeff Frazier. Mauricio Robles couldn't even make it out of the first inning before exiting as the 'Caps were shut out as well. Robles walked four and allowed two hits before exiting, having recorded just one out. And as little as Erie's offense produced, the 'Caps managed only half of that, with two singles. The O-Tigers were able to get on the board, but just barely, managing one run as they were defeated soundly by Lowell. David Stokes took the loss, allowing four runs, but just one earned. The offense managed four extra base hits, having various scoring chances, but couldn't turn those opportunities into runs. The GCL Tigers had none of the problems at the plate that the rest of the Tigers' farm clubs had, putting up double digit runs and hits. Billy Nowlin had three hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Brandon Douglas, who worked at third base, had two hits, scored three runs, and drove in two. Luis Angel Sanz got the win, giving up two runs in six innings. The DSL Tigers got hammered for the second time in three nights. Carlos Melo took the loss, allowing the first six runs (though just three earned), while Emmaneul Del Orbe suffered the rest of the pain, allowing seven more runs in two additonal innings. Neither were helped by their defense, as the team committed four errors which ended up resulting in five unearned runs. Luis Castillo did manage two hits and a walk in the leadoff slot. And in fitting fashion for the day, the VSL Tigers were hit hard as well. Starter Gino Aguirre took the loss, but everyone that was thrown to the mound gave up at least one run, except Michael Torrealba. Avisail Garcia had three hits and scored a run for the VSL Tigers. Posted by: Wez, 6/26 June 24th Games AAA Toledo Mud Hens – TOLEDO 12, SYRACUSE 2 AA Erie SeaWolves – TRENTON 6, ERIE 2 A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – LAKELAND 4, JUPITER 2 A West Michigan Whitecaps – WEST MICHIGAN 7, FORT WAYNE 6 A- Oneonta Tigers – GM1: LOWELL 4, ONEONTA 3 R GCL Tigers – TIGERS 9, BLUE JAYS 5 R DSL Tigers - TIGERS 10, NATIONALS(2) 6 R VSL Tigers – METS 4, TIGERS 3 Matt Joyce was the story of the day on Tuesday, crushing a pair of home runs and driving in seven more in leading the 'Hens to a big victory. Joyce gave plenty of support to Virgil Vasquez, who gave up just two runs over eight innings of work as he earned his sixth victory of the year. Max Leon and Dane Sardinha also had three hits apiece. Trenton got to Andrew Kown early, and the 'Wolves offense couldn't recover. Kown gave up three runs in the first two innings, and ended up giving up five over 5 2/3 innings as he fell to 4-9 on the year. Kody Kirkland and Jeff Frazier had two hits each, but it wasn't enough to keep Erie in the game. Jonah Nickerson turned in a quality start, but couldn't get any run support until the inning after he left. Nickerson gave up two runs in six innings, exiting with the game deadlocked at two. Devin Thomas drove in the go-ahead run with a triple (he was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, including a solo homer in the fifth). Santo de Leon also managed a solo home run to get the Flying Tigers on the board in the fifth. It was a seesaw battle for the 'Caps, jumping out to an early lead, only to lose that lead, and then come from behind to take a one-run lead in the eighth and hold on for victory. Wilton Garcia got the win in relief for pitching 2 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball. Ronnie Bourquin led the charge at the plate, with two hits, including a solo home run, and three RBI. Joe Tucker and Kyle Peter also had two hits each. The O-Tigers fell in the completion of Monday night's suspended game, but got the game back with a strong performance on Tuesday. Darwin De Leon picked up the win, giving up just one run on two hits over five innings, while Tyler Stohr picked up his second save. Oneonta managed just three hits, but a few walks provided enough baserunners to get four O-Tigers across the plate. The GCL Tigers surged forward with a big day at the plate, getting home runs from Brandon Douglas and Londell Taylor, who both had big games, combining for five hits, five runs and five RBI. They helped give plenty of run support for Victor Larez, who allowed all five runs, but just three earned. After a disastrous game on Monday, the DSL Tigers picked up a win with a strong showing at the plate late in the game. Elvin Soto had a home run and three RBI - he was one of four DSL Tigers to have a multi-hit game. Robert Diaz took a no-decision, giving up just one run over five innings while striking out eight. And the VSL Tigers lost a close battle, as their comeback attempt fell just short, stranding the tying and go-ahead runners in scoring position. Posted by: Wez, 6/25 June 23rd Games AAA Toledo Mud Hens – TOLEDO 4, SYRACUSE 3 AA Erie SeaWolves – TRENTON 4, ERIE 3 A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – JUPITER 14, LAKELAND 7 A West Michigan Whitecaps – FORT WAYNE 7, WEST MICHIGAN 0 A- Oneonta Tigers – SSPD: RAIN - LOWELL 3, ONEONTA 3 (12) R GCL Tigers – TIGERS 2, YANKEES 1 R DSL Tigers - NATIONALS(1) 21, TIGERS 2 R VSL Tigers – RAYS 11, TIGERS 10 The Mud Hens used a big four run sixth inning to pull out a one-run victory over Syracuse. The day also marked Aquilino Lopez's work as a starter - Lopez went three innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Ian Ostlund got the win for pitching two scoreless innings of relief. Jackson Melian had a pair of RBI to help drive the offense. The SeaWolves on the other hand took a one run loss, despite a strong outing from Josh Rainwater. Rainwater gave up four runs (two earned) in six innings, but took the loss. The 'Wolves got most of their production from the bottom of the order, as Jeff Frazier, Dusty Ryan and Kody Kirkland combined for six hits, two runs and an RBI. Jupiter jumped all over Flying Tigers' pitching chasing Duane Below in just the second inning, and then hitting Ramon Garcia even harder. Below gave up four runs in 1 2/3 innings, while Garcia allowed nine more in four innings of work. The Flying Tigers offense wasn't able to keep up, though Jeramy Laster did have a pair of solo home runs, and Ryan Strieby also went yard as well. The Whitecaps got shut out by Fort Wayne, with the lineup managing just four hits while committing three errors. Brandon Hamilton had another shaky start, walking seven in just three innings of work - he gave up four runs in that stretch. One interesting item to note - Jordan Newton, normally a catcher, got the start in centerfield on Monday - Newton went 0-for-3. The Oneonta Tigers saw their game with Lowell suspended due to rain with the game tied at three in the 12th inning - they will finish the game on Tuesday. Thad Weber made his second big league appearance and what a start it was. Weber went three innings, didn't allow a hit or a walk, and struck out eight of the nine outs recorded. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't take the lead until the bottom of the ninth via a sacrfice fly from Brandon Douglas that scored Alexis Espinoza. Chao-Ting Tang also had a pair of hits for the GCL Tigers. It wasn't a great day for the DSL Tigers on the mound, as the DSL Nationals hit the club hard - harder than the Flying Tigers were hit, giving up 23 hits which produced 21 runs. Ariel Medina took the loss, giving up six runs in 1/3 of an inning. Ramon Lebron did give the team some quality relief, pitching 3 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. Robinson Figueroa had a solo blast for the Tigers. The VSL Tigers produced plenty of offense, unfortunately, it was just a bit short, falling a run shy of the Rays. Clemente Mendoza took the loss in relief, allowing the game-winning run to score in the bottom of the ninth. Avisail Garcia had a home run and three RBI, while the top of the order (Ivan Espinoza, Wondy de los Santos and Francisco Martinez) combined for six hits, five runs and four RBI. Posted by: Wez, 6/24 June 22nd Games AAA Toledo Mud Hens – SCRANTON/WILKES BARRE 10, TOLEDO 1 AA Erie SeaWolves – ERIE 6, HARRISBURG 3 A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – LAKELAND 10, JUPITER 4 A West Michigan Whitecaps – SOUTH BEND 9, WEST MICHIGAN 1 A- Oneonta Tigers – ONEONTA 8, TRI-CITY 7 R GCL Tigers – OFF DAY R DSL Tigers - OFF DAY R VSL Tigers – OFF DAY The Toledo Mud Hens were hammered on Sunday afternoon, with the brunt of the attack going against starter Chris Lambert. Lambert gave up seven runs in just 3 1/3 innings before exiting, putting the Mud Hens in a big hole, one the offense was unable to come close to closing - managing just two hits and a run. Erie didn't bring the run support until late, but it was enough to get a win. It wasn't enough to get the win for Luke French though, who got a no decision, giving up three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Juan Cedeno picked up the win in relief. Ryan Roberson had a big pinch-hit two run homer in the eighth to give the 'Wolves the lead, while Kody Kirkland added an insurance run via a solo blast in the ninth. Danny Worth also had a pair of hits. Guillermo Moscoso made it just four innings, but it was the offense that was the story on Sunday. Ryan Strieby led the charge with a home run and five RBI, while three other Flying Tigers went yard (Gary Sheffield, Jeramy Laster and Devin Thomas). Brennan Boesch also added two hits, two runs and an RBI. Follwoing the Mud Hens, the Whitecaps got hit hard on Sunday, though the defense didn't help either. Jon Kibler took the loss, giving up five runs in five innings of work - but all five runs came in one inning, which was prolonged by a pair of errors, one of which was credited to Kibler. Justin Henry scored the lone run for the 'Caps. The O-Tigers scored plenty early then hung on for the rest of the ride as they squeaked out a one run victory. Mark Brackman didn't make it too long, giving up five runs in three innings - it was the offense that won this game for Oneonta.
