REPORT: Tigers to Sign RHP Freddy Garcia

According to SI.com, the Tigers have come to terms on a minor league deal with RHP Freddy Garcia. Garcia, who hasn't pitched in more than a year, will begin in Class-A Lakeland.

The minor league deal that the Tigers signed Freddy Garcia to only lasts for the remainder of the 2008 season. If Garcia is called up to Detroit, the deal will become a major-league deal.

Garcia held a workout for a number of clubs last week, where he showed he made noticable improvement, but where his radar gun readings were still in the mid-80's.

It is not yet known if the Tigers truly believe Garcia can help the big league club in 2008, or if they're using this solely as an audition to see if he could be ready to be a full-time starter for the club in 2009.
