Bonine earned just his second win of the year, giving up three runs (two earned) in eight innings of work. Josh Rainwater pitched the ninth for his second save. Jeff Larish went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI total, while Scott Sizemore also added a pair of RBI.
The SeaWolves also picked up a win over Binghamton as they moved into third place in the division with their 5-1 win. Thad Weber was outstanding on the mound, giving up a run on five hits in eight innings of work, including three strikeouts. Casper Wells led the way, with two hits and three RBI for the club, while Brennan Boesch added two hits and scored twice, and Cale Iorg also added two hits and an RBI.
The Whitecaps fell to Kane County on Sunday, falling 7-4. Luke Putkonen struggled as he took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings of work. The 'Caps offense meanwhile didn't get going until Kane County had already put seven runs up on the board. Billy Nowlin had three hits including a pair of doubles, while Ben Guez added two hits, two runs and an RBI.
The O-Tigers are still hanging onto first place in the Stedler division, but their recent losing skid is making things a bit tighter after their 8-6 loss to Mahoning Valley. It was a tough loss to take, as the O-Tigers gave up five runs in the ninth inning, with Kenny Faulk losing the lead by giving up four earned runs. Jose Ortega came on and allowed the winning runs to cross the plate. Gary Perinar got the start but struggled with his control, walking six in 2 2/3 innings. Chris Sedon ripped a triple, scored twice and drove in three runs for the club.

Buffalo left-hander Jon Niese wasn't giving much to the Hens yesterday, holding them to just a pair of singles in a complete game shutout in game one of the double dip. Donnie Kelly and Brent Dlugach were the only two to pick up hits. Chris Lambert was the hard-luck loser, tossing a complete game of his own, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk.
Game two wasn't much better for the Hens, as they were again shutout despite collecting seven hits. Max St. Pierre and Donnie Kelly both picked up a pair of singles, and Scott Sizemore doubled, but they couldn't push a run across. Scot Drucker tossed five innings to take the loss, giving up just two runs on four hits, while striking out two against no walks. Casey Fien tossed a scoreless inning to close out the defeat.
Jonah Nickers gave up nine hits, two walks, and four runs in seven innings, without striking out a batter, to fall to 7-7 on the year. Cody Satterwhite worked a scoreless eighth allowing two hits while striking out one. A solo home run from the suddenly red-hot Santo De Leon led the offense, while Casper Wells and Ronnie Bourquin both doubled. Brennan Boesch was the only 'Wolves player to collect more than one hit, singling twice in four trips to the plate.
In what looked like a runaway win for the Flying Tigers on Saturday, the offense was rolling early and often; scoring at least one run in four of the first five innings. Michael Bertram led the way with a four-hit attack, notching the cycle with his 17th double, third triple, and tenth home run of the season. Jeramy Laster, Devin Thomas, and Jordan Newton all collected two hits in the game with Laster doubling twice. Sitting on an 11-3 lead entering the eighth, things seemed in order, but Chad Linder and Scott Green had some serious struggles, giving up nine runs (only three earned) in just 2/3 of an inning. Errors by Bertram and shortstop Audy Ciriaco set the table for the big inning.
Led by a brilliant eight innings from Mark Sorensen, the Whitecaps moved to 14-8 in the second half of the Midwest League season. Sorensen allowed only two hits and a walk en route to the win, while striking out six. Two-hit nights from Billy Nowlin and Joe Bowen included a double each, while newcomer Hernan Perez collected two singles and drove in two.
Eric Roof ripped his first professional home run in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to help the O-Tigers over the Scrappers. The Tigers tried to comeback in the ninth as John Murrian -- pinch hitting for Roof -- knocked in right fielder Michael Rockett before the rally failed. Adam Wilk continued his amazing run at the start of his career, allowing just one run in five innings, dropping his ERA to a miniscule 0.39. Mike LaLuna took the loss by walking two and giving up a single as he yielded two runs in two innings of work. Jose Ortega came in for LaLuna in the eighth, slamming the door with three strikeout spread around a hit and a walk.
Two hits from Francisco Martinez and a double from Jordan Cruz led the offense on the back fields in Tampa Saturday, as the rookie Tigers pulled out a late 3-2 win. Martinez also managed his seventh steal of the season. Zach Samuels spun six innings of two-run ball to keep his team in the game, and Robert Diaz picked up the win in the eighth to move his record to 3-1 on the year. Hard-throwing Melvin Mercedez shut the door in the ninth for his sixth save of the season.
The DSL Tiger offense exploded with four runs in the first three innings, and nine more over the seventh and eighth to propel the squad to the win over the Padres. The Tigers managed to score all 13 runs without collecting an extra-base hit. Raynolds Guzman led the way with three singles, while Santo Heredia, Ivan Espinoza, and Nelson Pierre each notched two hits. Samir Rijo was the only starter not to collect a hit, though he did walk twice and score two runs. Emmanuel Del Orbe started and went four innings, giving up three runs on five hits and five walks, but striking out five. Darlyn Duran picked up the win with five one-hit innings to finish it off.
Fernando Celis evened his record at 2-2 on the year with five solid innings to pick up the win. Frank Penalver and Gino Aguirre helped close things down with a combined four innings of one-hit ball with six strikeouts. Four Tigers had multi-hit days, led by a three-hit performance from Eugenio Suarez. Despite only collecting a single in the game, Wilfredo Hoyer struck the big blow by driving in two.

A comeback in the eighth and ninth innings feel short as Erie dropped Friday night's game to the Mets 8-7. Casper Wells led the offense with a solo shot in the third inning as part of a three-hit night. Santo De Leon also homered, and Danny Worth collected his ninth double at Double-A. Pat Stanley had a rough outing, yielding all eight Binghamton runs on seven hits and five walks, in just 3 1/3 innings of work. Robbie Weinhardt and Brett Jensen gave the offense a chance to come back, combining for 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief with no walks and six punchouts.
Another slugfest in Lakeland resulted in a win for the Flying Tigers as they topped the Jays 11-8. Carlos Guillen continued his rehab assignment at the top of the lineup with a single and a walk while serving as the team's designated hitter. Joe Tucker had a double and a triple while driving in three, while Audy Ciriaco ripped a homer and a single to drive in two. Devin Thomas and Jeramy Laster both collected two hits, and Chris White tripled in three runs and stole his 12th base. LJ Gagnier got the start for Lakeland, spinning 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs but getting the win. Newcomer Ryan Ketchner had a rough first outing, giving up four runs on four hits in just 2/3 of an inning.
Pitching and offense were the story in Grand Rapids last night, but the pitching stole the show as Brayan Villareal, Erik Crichton, Tyler Conn, and Tyler Stohr all combined to fire a nine-hit shutout. Villareal picked up his third win of the season while striking out six, and dropping his season ERA to 1.06. Ben Guez continues to rake in July as he collected his seventh home run and two singles. Micheal Gosse had a perfect 4-for-4 night with a double and two RBI, as Brent Wyatt and Avisail Garcia both collected to knocks.
It was a rough night for the Oneonta pitching staff in Mahoning Valley last night, as Jeff Gerbe gave up three runs in just 2/3 of an inning before leaving the game. Clemente Mendoza didn't have much better luck, giving up three runs of his own over 3 2/3 innings. Four additional pitchers combined to try and hold things together, but Michael Torrealba and Wade Kapteyn gave up four more runs in a combined innings on either side of Cory Hamilton's scoreless work. Carmelo Jaime and Eric Roof stepped up the offense with three hits each, and Jimmy Gulliver drove in three on two singles.
There wasn't much offense to be had on the GCL fields yesterday, as Edwin Gomez led the way with a double, while four other players managed singles. Six walks by Braves' pitching helped the Tigers keep it close, but it wasn't enough. Jose Siso left after five innings, but Richard Zumaya took the loss with two runs allowed in 1 1/3 innings. Nolan Cain had a chance to shut the door but he blew the save with three runs (one earned) allowed in 2 2/3 innings.
Samir Rijo and Domingo Gonzalez both doubled, but the DSL Tigers couldn't muster any runs against a stingy DSL Nats pitching staff. Ariel Medina deserved a better fate, yielding just one run on three hits in five innings on the hill. Bonus baby Greg Morillo still battled his control but had a solid outing with two scoreless innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
Jose Tablante was another pitcher to battle his control on Friday, walking four in just 3 2/3 innings, but only giving up one earned run. Josue Carreno was back in action for the second time since his blister problems, and he looked like the pitcher that started the year on fire; tossing 2 1/3 innings with just one hit and one walk allowed. The only two hits picked up for the Tigers were a solo home run -- his fourth -- from Gabriel Purroy, and a single from Jesus Alvarado. Dixon Machado did managed two steals, giving him 21 on the year.

Brooks Brown picked up the win, giving up a run in 6 2/3 innings of work, including two walks and four strikeouts. Wilkin Ramirez picked up where he left off, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, and Scott Sizemore also added a pair of RBI.
Erie topped Binghamton on Thursday, 10-5. Jon Kibler struggled a bit in his start, giving up three runs on seven hits in three innings before exiting - Brendan Wise got the win in relief for tossing three shutout innings. Ronnie Bourquin, Andy Dirks and Santo De Leon all belted homers for the club, while Casper Wells drove in three more runs for the 'Wolves.
The Flying Tigers picked up a shutout victory over Dunedin on the back of the entire bullpen. Mauricio Robles lasted just 2 2/3 innings, not allowing a hit but walking four. Lester Oliveros got the win for tossing 2 1/3 innings, while Chad Linder picked up a hold for pitching three innings of perfect relief. Carlos Guillen, on his rehab appearance, had a double and scored twice for the club. Justin Henry also added two hits and scored a run.
The Whitecaps won a high scoring affair on Thursday, beating Peoria 11-7. Brandon Hamilton didn't have to battle his control on Thursday, but he certainly had his hands full with Peoria hitters, who tagged him for six runs on eight hits in three innings. Anthony Shawler tossed the final four innings for the club however, not allowing a run, to get the win. Ben Guez and Billy Nowlin each had solo blasts for the team, while Joe Bowen had two hits, two runs and three RBI.
The O-Tigers continued their winning ways with a tight 5-4 win over Auburn. Nate Newman got a no decision as the starter, giving up three runs in 4 1/3 innings. Kevan Hess picked up the win in relief, for tossing 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Kenny Faulk picked up his fifth save, though not without a little bit of a scare, allowing a run in the ninth to make it the one run game that it finished as. Eric Roof had two hits and two RBI for the club.
Eight outstanding innings were almost ruined by a disastrous ninth, but the GCL Tigers still pulled out a 12-10 victory. Ramon Lebron got the win, tossing six shutout innings with five strikeouts. The bullpen though was a disaster late, giving up ten runs in the ninth and requiring the services of Melvin Mercedes just to close the game out and secure the win. Michael Manus and Marcos Nunez combined to allow all ten runs. Adolfo Reina, Francisco Martinez and Alexander Nunez all had home runs, while Jordan Cruz added three RBI.
The DSL Tigers pitchers struggled as they fell 13-8 to the DSL Yankees2. Yadiel Polanco struggled for the club, giving up six runs in five innings, but the game was actually lost late by Jose Valdez, who gave up six runs in the ninth to give the DSL Yankees2 the lead. Nelson Pierre and Samuel Ortiz each had two RBI in the losing effort.
Bullpen struggles weren't a problem for the VSL Tigers though, as they got hammered in an 11-run fifth inning that put the game out of reach early. Julio Guilarte got the loss as the starter, giving up six runs without making it out of the fifth inning. Bruce Rondon came on in relief and struggled as well, giving up five more runs before final ending the inning. Jesus Alvarado and Oscar Gomez each drove in a run for the team.

Brett Jacobson also struggled in relief, giving up three more runs in 2 2/3 innings. The team scattered seven singles, two apiece from Chris Carlson and Chris White, with Audy Ciriaco also swiping a base.
A four-run third inning put the 'Caps in a hole that they couldn't climb out of, as they fell to Peoria 4-2. Casey Crosby took the loss in one of his poorer outings of the year, giving up four runs (though just two earned) in three innings of work. Victor Larez tossed five innings of shutout relief, but the West Michigan offense couldn't get the team back in the game. Ben Guez and Billy Nowlin each drove in a run for the club.
Luis Angel Sanz went seven innings as Oneonta picked up an 8-4 win over Auburn. Sanz wasn't outstanding, allowing four runs on six hits, but still earned his first win for the O-Tigers. Alexis Espinoza had a huge game for the team, going 3-for-5 with three RBI including a two run homer. Michael Rockett and Rawley Bishop also had two hits and scored two runs apiece. And Wade Gaynor also chipped in with a pair of RBI.
It was an interesting game for the GCL Tigers as they squeaked out a 6-5 win. The GCL Tigers got the game going with a five-run first inning, but then saw the GCL Phillies chip away at their lead, one run at a time, until they tied it up in the sixth inning. It remained tied until the ninth when Julio Rodriguez singled home Francisco Martinez to give the team a 6-5 lead. Melvin Mercedes pitched the ninth to earn his fourth save. Jose Diaz started, giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings. It would be Robert Diaz though that earned the win, tossing 2 1/3 shutout innings. The VSL Tigers got home runs out of Dixon Machado and Gabriel Purroy as they cruised to a 9-5 victory. Wilfredo Ramirez gave up plenty of hits, but still picked up the win, giving up five runs on 13 hits in 7 1/3 innings of work. Machado scored three times on the day, with Luis Alberto Sanz adding two hits and two runs scored.

The GCL Tigers dropped both games of a doubleheader with the GCL Pirates, falling 3-2, and 10-5, respectively. In the first game, a late rally couldn't get the GCL Tigers to tie the game. Francisco Martinez also had a hit and an RBI. Zach Samuels took the loss, giving up three runs in four innings of work.
