MilB Recaps: Pounds Perfect 5-for-5 for LFT

Each morning, check in for the Minor League Recap Blog. Get all of the results from the games, the latest standings and the daily blog recapping the previous day's action. Bryan Pounds had a five hit day to help guide Lakeland to an 8-3 win on Wednesday.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - WEST MICHIGAN 6, BOWLING GREEN 2
3-4, t-5th in Eastern Division

The Mud Hens battled their way back against Columbus after falling behind early, but Daniel Schlereth gave up the go-ahead run in the eighth and Toledo couldn't match it in the ninth, and fell 3-2. Phil Dumatrait got a no decision as the starter, giving up two runs in five innings of work. Robbie Weinhardt also had a solid outing in relief, tossing 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief. Jeff Frazier belted a solo home run for the club, while Ryan Strieby added another RBI for the 'Hens.

The SeaWolves battled hard, but despite forcing extra innings, fell to Binghamton in 13 innings, 4-3. Ryan Ketchner took the loss, giving up the run in the bottom of the 13th after going 2 2/3 innings. The SeaWolves had a chance to close the game out and pick up their first win, but Brooks Brown blew the save opportunity by giving up the tying run in the bottom of the ninth. L.J. Gagnier got the start, giving up two runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Jeff Kunkel led the way at the plate, with two hits and two RBI, including a solo home run. Cale Iorg also had a double and an RBI.

The Flying Tigers turned up the offense late and ran away with the game, as they topped Brevard County 8-3. Mark Sorensen got a no decision as the starter, giving up three runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings of work. Erik Crichton came on in relief and allowed his inherited runners from Sorensen to score, losing the lead which was quickly regained. Bryan Pounds was the star at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Carmelo Jaime also drove in a pair, while Rawley Bishop added two hits and scored twice.

The Whitecaps picked up a 6-2 win over Bowling Green as they move closer to that .500 mark. Jade Todd got the start but couldn't pick up the win as he only went four innings, allowing two runs. Victor Larez earned the win in relief for tossing three shutout innings. Mike Gosse led the way for the offense, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Elvin Soto and Hernan Perez also chipped in, both belting solo home runs.
