Toledo got roughed up by Louisville as the Hens fell 10-4. Charlie Furbush took the loss and struggled, allowing six runs on ten hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Josh Rainwater had 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, but Scot Drucker allowed three more runs and then Jay Sborz allowed the final run to make it an even ten for Louisville. Scott Sizemore went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run and two RBI, while Brent Dlugach added three hits and scored twice.
The SeaWolves continued their winning ways on Thursday as they topped New Britain again 6-1. Brooks Brown earned his 11th win of the season, giving up a run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Rob Waite got four outs to pick up a hold, while Luis Marte struck out the side in his one inning of work. Rawley Bishop went 2-for-3 with two runs scored including a three run homer, while Alden Carrithers and Jeff Kunkel each added two hits and an RBI.
The Flying Tigers picked up a 7-2 win over Brevard County on Thursday, behind a strong pitching performance from Luke Putkonen. Putkonen tossed six shutou innings, scattering seven hits while walking three and striking out four. Wilfredo Ramirez allowed both of Brevard County's runs in his two innings of relief, while Michael Torrealba closed the game out with a perfect inning. Brent Wyatt had two hits, scored a run and drove in two, while Gustavo Nunez added two hits including a triple and three RBI.
The Whitecaps continue their hunt for a playoff berth, getting a little bit closer with a 4-1 win over Bowling Green. Luis Angel Sanz got the win for the club for tossing six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five. Kenny Faulk pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save. Wade Gaynor had two hits including a triple, and also scored once and drove in a run. Hernan Perez also added two hits and an RBI.
It was a night to forget for the CT-Tigers as the club fell to Jamestown 14-0. Brennan Smith got roughed up as the starter, giving up six runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Things didn't go much better in relief as Ramon Lebron allowed three runs, and Logan Hoch allowed four more without recording an out. Tim Mowry had the best outing of the group, giving up a run on four hits in two innings of work. Julio Rodriguez managed a single for the club, which was the only thing standing between them and being no-hit.
The GCL Tigers picked up a pair of wins over the GCL Blue Jays on Thursday, winning 5-4 and then 2-0. Jeff Ferrell got the win in the first game for his five shutout innings of work. Alex Burgos was then victimized by poor defense as he yielded four runs but just one was earned. Bruce Rondon then entered the game and got the final four outs to pick up his 14th save. Juaner Aguasvivas belted a solo home run for the team. In the second game, Wilsen Palacios got the win, also tossing five shutout innings. Cole Nelson then pitched the final two innings to preserve the shutout and earn the save. Javier Azcona had a double and two RBI.
The DSL Tigers suffered a one-run defeat to the DSL Rangers on Thursday, falling 3-2. Emmanuel Del Orbe got the start but didn't last long, allowing one unearned run on three hits in two innings. Darlin Duran took the loss, giving up two runs, both unearned, in 5 1/3 innings for the team. Raynolds Guzman drove in both runs for the team.
