Perez Leads Erie to Win (5/5 Recaps)

Hernan Perez drove in two runs on Sunday.

Led by a strong offensive performance by Hernan Perez and solid pitching by Matt Crouse, Erie continued its winning streak on Sunday after riding a two-run second inning to a win over Altoona. Toledo suffered another loss against Charlotte, while Lakeland and West Michigan lost their games late.

Toledo scored one run in the eighth inning but failed to generate any other offense of note on Sunday, falling to Charlotte in a 4-1 final. Starting pitcher Shawn Hill earned his third loss of the season after giving up four earned runs on nine hits in a complete game performance. Ramon Cabrera was the lone Mud Hens hitter to drive in a run in his Toledo debut out of the designated hitter spot, going 1-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

A two-run second inning proved to be the difference for Erie on Sunday as the SeaWolves topped Altoona 2-1. Matt Crouse improved his record to 3-1 after earning the win in his start, giving up one earned run on six hits while striking out six in six innings of work. Justin Souza earned his fifth save of the season in the win. Hernan Perez gave the SeaWolves an offensive boost on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs driven in in the win. Tyler Collins also drew two walks in the win.

Lakeland saw a 2-2 tie broken in the fifth inning by Jupiter on Sunday as the Flying Tigers fell to the Hammerheads 3-2. Kyle Ryan had his record fall to 3-2 in the start, giving up three earned runs on three hits in six innings in a losing effort. Aaron Westlake was the lone Lakeland hitter to drive in a run, going 1-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

13-15, 4th in Eastern Division

A Quad Cities run in the top of the eighth inning was the difference for West Michigan on Sunday as the Whitecaps fell to the River Bandits 5-4. Montreal Robertson earned a no decision in his start, allowing two earned runs on three hits in four innings of work. Logan Elhers took the loss in relief. Devon Travis had another big game offensively for the ‘Caps, going 2-for-3 with two runs driven in while drawing two walks in the loss.
