Three Top Five Prospects Start '06 in Detroit

Typically, an organization's top prospects are fairly well spread across the system for obvious reasons – there's only so much money to sign players available each year, only so many top draft picks to sign players. But for the Tigers, the future is now, with three of TigsTown's Top Five prospects on the Tigers' Opening Day roster.

When manager Jim Leyland came in, he exclaimed that he was going to take the best players he had, and that they weren't giving spots away to anyone. The Tigers had quite a few incredible talents in spring training, but conventional baseball wisdom dictated that definitely one (Jordan Tata), maybe a second (Joel Zumaya) and possibly even all three (Justin Verlander) should still start the season...
